Comment on the current expectations placed on women. A woman has to have a career to count, yet is expected to have childeren and stay sexy at the same time.
The last cowboy
Social roles and change. Traditional male roles are disappearing at a fast pace. The modern male can not be a warrior anymore. He has to be sensitive and adept at powerpoint.
The bystander effect
A roll of film, single frame with scene. Some Nazis have executed a person and are pulling out his heart. People are walking by doing their thing.

The monster and the mirror
Personality versus public appearance. All humans posses ugly features that are best kept hidden. This concept is magnified in the painting. A fat, horny and desperate individual is looking at his own image in the mirror.
The minister of modern outlooks
Comment on government and possible visions on the future. A minister is shown with in the background a gloomy copy-paste city. Based on urban planning in the USA 1940-1960 of cities like New York and Cleveland.

Down with it
Jezus gives his approval of white suburban life, as goes the propaganda of church and state. Even though the people in the suburb live copy-paste lives as consumers and workers, are completely self obsessed, and make little to no effort towards the Christian goals of charity and tolerance. Below the surface this Christian clean public scene might also be a lot seedier, as indicated by the bottom right figure.
Het Hijgend Hert
Het Hijgend Hert is an authentic dutch style café/bar. It comes with it's own particular atmosphere and oddities. A lot of art work can be admired hanging from the walls and ceiling. There is an event calendar full of music, art and workshops.
The purpose of a dutch style café is to provide a place where people can sit down and discuss anything while drinking a good brew. From their daily lives to the profound and deep. Het Hijgend Hert is one of those must have a beer at places in the city of Breda.
Depicted in the painting is teambitterbal, a secret society dedicated to not telling you what they are about. The owner of the café is inside, making bitterballs, and most likely letting them char a little bit.

OMG, WTF is that?
Comment on the modern state. The economy is God. Government, banking and the media all worship big money. In the picture a government minister, a banker and a media tycoon are worshiping the state symbolized by a queen. The public are below, consuming their fast food and social media. However something happens outside of the view. Revolution?

Observation on the consumer culture of the west. Zero value entertainment like America's next great wtfever.

Modern man occupies himself with a small device. Does he control it? On the screen zeros and ones are displayed, as well as genetic code. This symbolizes how much more programmed our behaviors have become since the advent of the personal computer age.

A random male is attempting to engage with a female for the obvious purpose of sex, as symbolized by the genitalia. However since humans are seldom direct, a pickup conversation is generated by the male. Most likely about his job. Or some tasteless green earth/social order nonsense if it's one of those sophisticated types. The woman is not interested and is wondering how to disengage from the conversation.

The joker
My fantasy self and me are having a bad day
The judgement of their looks affect most people. In this example an ugly brown haired woman has conjured up a fantasy pretty thin blonde self in order to deal with reality. However both she and the fantasy realize that it's just a fantasy and reality is brutal. So they are both depressed. With one hand touching the glass case of the painting she is attempting to reach out to you.
The thinking man
Modern man. In modern times youths are educated via a conveyor belt school system, providing all with the same content. A government approved concept of how the world works. The media reinforces this. Also they provide much needed distraction from thinking for yourself by alerts about terrorism, disasters and stock market crashes. People end up in nine to five jobs, consuming the same popular fast foods and entertainment platforms. Life is copy-paste. We climb the same predetermined little steps from infant to parent to senior citizen. Eventually we fall of the stairs to our deaths. As the rumor goes the past was always better. We used to think for ourselves back then? Well perhaps not..but we also did not die of diabetes much.
